About Tiara Farms

Tiara Farms is a family – run operation located in central North Carolina, about 15 miles south of Graham in southern Alamance County.

Although modest in numbers, our breeding program has been carefully planned with genetics that are powerful in performance and selective in pedigree.

We are confident that from this program will evolve Brahman genetics that will make a positive contribution and strong impact on today’s beef industry as well as the future.   At Tiara Farms we have carefully assembled a foundation herd of Brahman females with emphasis on quality.

The cattle operation consists of a herd of registered gray Brahman cattle and registered Angus cattle.  With the two breed operations we feel we have “the best of two worlds.”  Angus cattle are dependable, good producing, functional animals; however, in the southern environment cattle need some Brahman influence in their cowherds.  Brahman cattle are tough, thrifty, extremely heat tolerant and have a high immunity to flies and other insect pests.  Extreme heat and humidity are little or no concern to the Brahman animal, thus making Brahman bulls an excellent choice for crossbreeding.

Contrary to popular belief, Brahman cattle are extremely docile, easily handled and very intelligent animals.  On the other hand, Brahman mamas are very protective about their young offspring.  Brahman cows are blessed with very rich milk high in butterfat, making them excellent brood cows.

After using Brahman bulls in our commercial operation for crossbreeding, in 1988 the decision was made to move toward a purebred operation.  Tiara Farms purchased several females from some of the leading breeders throughout the Southeast.  The Brahman herd consists of Suva, Bozo, Remington and Sugar bloodlines.  These are strong Brahman bloodlines which have impacted the breed bringing it to where it is today.

In 1994 the Angus herd was purchased with the purpose of developing a good F1 Brahman x Angus herd.  The American Brahman Association has a certification program which recognizes crossbred F1 females.  (Both the female and bull must be registered, even if from different breeds.)  We use the Brahman bulls on the Angus females to produce top quality F1 crossbreds.

The Brahman F1 cross female is without equal in the commercial arena.  She is a true hybrid and has tremendous maternal traits, consistently weaning more net pounds of beef per year than any other breed or cross.  As a result, these F1’s continue to top the country’s most prestigious commercial female sales, like those at Houston, San Antonio and Ft. Worth, Texas, livestock shoes each year.

Contrary to common belief, crossbred Brahman cattle have excellent cut out, muscling, marbling and tenderness, which meet today’s strict beef standards.  There is extensive carcass data and research being done by Texas A&M University on Brahman-influenced cattle with very positive results.

Many cattlemen are also retaining ownership in their cattle with the feedlots, finding it very profitable.  This enables a cattleman to actually evaluate his own program.  From the standpoint of beef production, which so many of us sometimes tend to forget, our bottom line is beef.  With any breed, good genetics decisions must be made.  We must breed our cattle for good beef production.  New fads come and go, but in the cattle industry meat and muscling are always in style.  Good Brahman genetics are in growing demand in today’s beef industry.  As a breeder developing the right kind of calf is an ongoing challenge.

At Tiara farms our main goal is to produce those cattle with a strong emphasis on genetically improved, high performance, top quality traits which will be an asset to the Brahman breed as well as our customers.

Brahman cattle are integral part of our lives and farm scope for the future.  Our Southeastern part of the United States demands the need for Brahman-influenced cattle.  We recognize what sets the Brahman breed apart from the competition – fertility, longevity, optimal growth and maternal ability.  As we strive for maximum performance we will never lose sight of producing the “right kind.”
